If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Summary
Honda (American Honda
Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2015 Acura
TLX 2WD and 4WD vehicles.
In the affected vehicles, the transmission wire harness connections may have insufficient crimps, and, as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral.
Remedy
Acura has notified owners, and dealers will, based on the automatic transmission serial number, update the transmission software to prevent the transmission from shifting into neutral due to a faulty crimp, free of charge.
The recall began January 13, 2017.
Owners may contact Acura Client Relations at 1-888-234-2138.
Honda’s number for this recall is KC2.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Safety Recall: 2015 TLX V6 A/T Sensor Cluster Crimp Failure

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Year | Model | Trim | VIN Range |
2015 | TLX | V6 with A/T | Check the iN VIN status for eligibility |
BACKGROUND
When the transmission control module (TCM, but it may also be referred to as a TCU) detects certain DTCs, the TCM puts the transmission into a failsafe or backup mode. Currently, when the vehicle is put into backup mode, the transmission shifts to neutral and forward momentum may be lost. A software was developed to change the failsafe mode from a neutral state to a gear hold mode.
CLIENT NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign.
Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible.
Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory. Federal law requires that all affected new vehicles be repaired before sale. In addition, failure to repair a vehicle subject to a recall or campaign may subject your dealership to claims or lawsuits from the customer or anyone else harmed as a result of such failure.
Furthermore, state law may provide American Honda with the right to seek indemnification in any such claim or lawsuit. To see if a vehicle in inventory is affected by this recall, do a VIN status inquiry before selling it.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the TCM software.
