SYMPTOM

The low tire pressure/TPMS indicator is on with no DTC, or with VSA DTC 151-11 (low tire pressure threshold refinement), and the tire pressures were properly set to the driver’s doorjamb label.

 

POSSIBLE CAUSES

The TPMS system misinterprets different driving conditions.

 

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the VSA modulator-control unit.

 

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

NOTE: Unnecessary or incorrect repairs resulting from a failure to update the HDS or MVCI are not covered under warranty.

MVCI Control Module (CM) Update:
Application (FW) Version 3.01.40 or later
Database update 12-Nov-2014 or later

HDS Software Version:
3.015.023 or later

Before beginning the repair, make sure that both the HDS and MVCI are updated as listed aboveDo only the update listed in this service bulletin.

Check that the MVCI indicates the applicable program ID listed below (or a later program ID) as the Recommended Update when the update begins. If the MVCI displays This vehicle does not need an update at this time during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Connect a fully charged jumper battery to the vehicle and leave it connected during the entire update procedure to maintain a steady voltage.
  2. Apply the parking brake and make sure the headlights are turned off.
  3. Turn the ignition to ON, and turn off all accessories.
  4. Connect the MVCI to the vehicle.
  5. Press the ENTER button on the MVCI to see the User Config Select CM Update Mode, then press ENTER.
  6. Select Reprogramming, then press ENTER.
  7. When CM Update Mode software screen appears, press ENTER to continue.

NOTE: The FW VER must be 3.01.40 or later and Database Update must be 12-NOV-2014 or later.

  1. The Select System screen appears, select ABS/VSA, then press ENTER. NOTE:
    • If the VSA update is the only available update, it will automatically go to the VSA selections.
    • For program ID and program part number, see the chart UNDER SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
  1. Scroll down and select Running change, IF YES, Press ENTER. Press ENTER again to start reprograming
  2. Set the tire pressures to the cold inflation values listed on the driver’s doorjamb label while the MVCI updates the vehicle.
  3. Once the update is complete, follow the screen prompts to turn the ignition to OFF, then to ON again when indicated.

NOTE: If an error occurs during the updating procedure, keep the ignition turned to on and ON; press ENTER to display the error code. Record the code, restart the update.

If the error code reoccurs, refer to the CM Update Error Code Table in the MVCI User Guide for more information.

  1. When the MVCI displays the message VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization is required after the completion of the update, scroll down and press ENTER.
  2. Using the HDS, go to VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization Procedure.

 

VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization Procedure

  1. Connect the HDS, and make sure the software version is 3.013.014 or later.
  2. Select Honda Systems, ABS/TCS/VSA, Adjustment, and All Sensors, then follow the screen prompts.
  3. Once completed, exit the VSA system; turn the ignition to OFF, then back to ON. Go to EPS Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position Clear Procedure.

  1. Go to EPS on the HDS.
  2. Select Adjustment, Select Steering Angle Sensor Value Clear, Follow the screen prompts.
  3. Turn the ignition to OFF, then back to ON. Go to TPMS Calibration Used After Software Update.

 

Special TPMS Calibration Used Only After Software Update

NOTE: If the tire pressures were not already set, set them to the cold inflation values listed on the driver’s doorjamb label.

  1. Press the MENU button on the steering wheel to enter the customize settings.
  2. Press the AUDIO REMOTE + or – button to select CUSTOMIZE SETTINGS.
  3. Press the AUDIO REMOTE + or – button to select TPMS CALIBRATION.
  4. Press the AUDIO REMOTE + or – button and select INITIALIZE.
  5. TPMS calibration will be initiated, would you like to proceed?
  6. Press the AUDIO REMOTE + or – button and select YES.
  7. When the calibration begins, TPMS CALIBRATION HAS BEEN INITIALIZED appears on the i-MID, when the system calibration is complete, the screen returns to TPMS CALIBRATION.
  8. Repeat steps 1 thru 7 two more times.
  9. Disconnect the jumper battery, start the vehicle, and verify that the VSA and the Low Tire Pressure/TPMS indicators come on and go off.

NOTE: It is not necessary to drive the vehicle to confirm the calibration is complete. Calibration will complete as the customer drives the vehicle.

  1. Turn the ignition to OFF, exit the HDS, and disconnect the MVCI.

i-HDS Diagnostic Software and J2534 Reprogramming Software

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. ("Honda") offers the i-HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) software suite for the diagnosis and repair of electronic systems on Honda and Acura automobiles, and for the reprogramming of electronic control units (including, but not limited to, ECMs and PCMs). This software provides access to all Honda and Acura vehicle systems (access to the immobilizer security system requires a Security Professional level software subscription and Vehicle Security Professional [VSP] registration with NASTF). To use the i-HDS software, you need to purchase one of our convenient subscription options. In addition, you will need a pass-thru Vehicle Communication Device (VCI) that is compliant with SAE J2534-1 and J2534-2 in order to communicate with the vehicle

 

Vehicle Communication Interfaces (VCI)

The i-HDS software supports the use of a generic pass-thru VCI that is compliant with SAE J2534-1 and J2534-2. However, Honda recommends the Denso DST-i or the Bosch MVCI for use on Honda and Acura vehicles, as Honda has worked closely with these manufacturers to ensure their hardware and our software interact safely and within the J2534-1 and -2 specifications, for both diagnostics and reprogramming. If you choose to use a generic VCI, please carefully consider the customer and technical support options you will receive from your chosen device supplier. Honda does not provide technical or customer support for generic VCI devices.

The VCI Application Table below lists devices that either are approved and supported by Honda or are known to have completed and passed an independent, exhaustive validation program with our i-HDS software suite.

Reprogramming with the J2534 Rewrite Application in i-HDS

Included in the i-HDS software suite is a new reprogramming application called J2534 Rewrite. This application is made available to all subscribers of the i-HDS software suite and replaces the previous generation software, J2534 Honda Pass-thru Reprogramming Software.

This new application is compatible with generic VCIs that comply with SAE J2534. It must be used to reprogram any Honda/Acura vehicle equipped with ECUs that support reprogramming. Refer to the table below for legacy applicability for the programming of ECMs and PCMs. Though system dependent, late-model vehicles may be equipped with other ECUs that support reprogramming as well, e.g. ABS or VSA. J2534 Rewrite must be used to reprogram these control modules, as instructed in an applicable service bulletin.

As shown in this table, not all legacy Honda/Acura models are equipped with a reprogrammable ECM/PCM. Furthermore, all 2007 and later models not listed in the table are fully supported with this application.
