Loose Fastener on Brake Booster Assembly
Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura
MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and repair the brake booster assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 7, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s numbers for this recall are VEU, AEV, and ZET.

Honda manufacturing found a missing nut missing from the brake booster assembly tie rods and notified the component part supplier, VBS. VBS implemented countermeasures to prevent a reoccurrence. No outflow from the occurrence was found.
December 1, 2022
Honda received a quality report on brake failure in a 2021 Pilot. No crash was reported in the incident. Honda began to investigate the issue.
May 24, 2023
VBS submitted Part 573 Defect Information Report # 23E-040 to the NHTSA.
May 31, 2023
VBS provided the serial numbers of the suspected parts involved in their recall. Honda continued to investigate the issue.
June 12, 2023
Honda investigated the potentially affected population of vehicles.
June 22, 2023
Honda determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety and FMVSS noncompliance existed and decided to conduct a safety and noncompliance recall.
As of June 22, 2023, Honda has received two warranty claims related to the issue between September 2022 to June 2023, and no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths related to this issue.
