Front Brakes Groan at Low Speeds

REVISION SUMMARY
Under REPAIR PROCEDURE, the requirement to refinish new brake discs was removed.
SYMPTOM
The front brakes make a low-pitched groan when coming to a stop from low speeds.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The brake pad material was improperly formulated.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Refinish or replace the front brake discs, and install new, reformulated brake pads.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
- Remove the front brake pads and shims:
- Refer to page 19-14 of the 2005–06 Odyssey Service Manual, or
- Online, enter keyword PAD, and select Front Brake Pad Inspection and Replacement from the list.
- Measure the brake disc thickness:
- Refer to page 19-17 of the service manual, or
- Online, enter keyword DISC, and select Front Brake Disc Inspection from the list.
- Note the measurements on the back of the repair order hard copy.
- If the disc is within service limits, go to step 3.
- If disc is beyond the service limit, replace the disc, then go to step 5.
- Refinish both front brake discs with an on-car brake lathe. Use the approved Kwik-Way or Snap-on brake lathe. Do not refinish the front discs off the vehicle because disc runout cannot be adequately eliminated by this method.
NOTE: For information on brake disc refinishing, refer to the operating manual for the lathe and to Service Bulletin 00-088, Brake Disc Refinishing Guidelines.
- Remeasure the brake disc thickness. Verify the disc is within refinish limits. Note the measurement on the back of the hard copy.
- Install new front brake pads and new shims:
- Refer to page 19-14 of the service manual, or
- Online, enter keyword PAD, and select Front Brake Pad Inspection and Replacement from the list.
