Production Dates : JAN 31, 2023 – APR 13, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Due to improper manufacturing, the electronic transmission’s generator resolver cover may have been broken during the assembly process. The broken pieces potentially can cut the resolver wires during vehicle operation, resulting in a loss of engine power. Description of the Cause : The generator resolver cover was installed out of sequence during the manufacturing process. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : An engine warning message displays on the vehicle’s dash. April 28, 2023 – The Honda factory implemented process improvement measures to address a potential production issue. May 30, 2023 – Honda launched an investigation into the cause of the generator resolver production issues. August 4, 2023 – Honda identified a potential defect that could result in a loss of motive power and an inability to restart. August 10, 2023 – Honda determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety existed and decided to conduct a safety recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will replace the e-CVT transmission. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Recalled e-CVT transmissions were improperly manufactured. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The e-CVT transmission manufacturing process added a detection mechanism to ensure that the resolver covers are not installed out of sequence. Next Unread Message View Message DATE: August 18, 2023 TO: All Honda Sales, Service & Parts Managers, and Personnel FROM: Brad Ortloff, Manager of Auto Campaigns and Recalls Re: Stop Sale/Safety Recall: 2023 Accord/CR-V Hybrid e-CVT Replacement On August 17, 2023, American Honda notified NHTSA of a stop sale and safety recall for nineteen (19) model year 2023 Accord Hybrid and 2023 CR-V Hybrid units to address improperly manufactured e-CVTs which may cause illumination of the MIL and/or loss of motive force, potentially increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Refer to your eResponsibility report or perform an iN VIN status inquiry to determine which units in your inventory are affected. Failure to repair a vehicle as necessary prior to sale may subject your dealership to claims or lawsuits. BACKGROUND A resolver is a rotation angle sensor for controlling an electric motor. The generator motor resolver covers in affected vehicles may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. Over time, this damage may cause the cover to separate from the resolver, potentially contacting and cutting the resolver wires and leading to a resolver malfunction. This malfunction may cause illumination of the MIL, the vehicle to transition to EV mode with range limited by battery capacity, and/or prevent the vehicle from restarting after stop. REPAIR Replace the e-CVT assembly. PARTS Parts will be available through the normal transmission ordering process. TOOLS There are no special tools needed for this recall. SERVICE BULLETINS Service Bulletins 23-075, Safety Recall: 2023 CR-V FHEV e-CVT Replacement and23-079, Safety Recall: 2023 Accord FHEV e-CVT Replacement have posted to the Service Information System (SIS) as of August 18, 2023. They include repair, parts, tools, and warranty information related to this campaign. CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION American Honda expects to complete customer notification in early October 2023.
