Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018 Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles and 2018 Acura MDX vehicles. The front driver and passenger powered seats in the Honda vehicles and the driver powered seats in the Acura vehicles may have been assembled with improperly manufactured rivets. In the event of a crash, the rivets can break causing the seats not to be secured to the floor. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, “Seating Systems,” and 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”
Remedy
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat frame assembly in Acura MDX vehicles, and replace the driver and front passenger seat slide rail frames in Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles, free of charge. The recall began May 30, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s numbers for this recall is D0S, and T0T.

BACKGROUND
A very limited number of 2018 MDX vehicles were potentially manufactured with defective seat frame rivets in the driver’s seat. If a vehicle with a defective rivet is involved in a crash, the seat may not operate as designed to protect the occupant, leading to increased potential for injury or death.

Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign.

Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory.

- Replace the driver’s seat frame. Refer to the service information.
NOTES
- Do not remove the seat cushion cover and seat-back cover from their pads.
- Do not disconnect the battery until the seat has been raised all the way up and all 4 mounting bolts have been removed.
- Do the driving position memory clear procedure. Refer to the service information.

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS NOTICE?
Acura has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2018 model year MDX vehicles. The driver seat was assembled with improperly manufactured rivets used to secure the seat frame assembly to the vehicle floor. In the event of a crash, the rivets can break and allow the driver seat to separate from the vehicle floor, increasing the risk of injury to the seated occupant.
WHAT WILL ACURA DO?
The dealer will replace the driver seat frame assembly for free.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please call any authorized Acura dealer and make an appointment to have your vehicle repaired for free. Once you make an appointment to repair your vehicle, be advised that the complete replacement process may take approximately 2 hours 15 minutes. However, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service visit, as may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time. If you are not the only driver of this vehicle, please advise all other drivers and passengers of this important information!
