Accelerator Pedal Feels Like It Pops When First Pressed

(Supersedes 04-035, Accelerator Pedal Hard to Press, dated November 9, 2004, to update the information marked by the black bar)

SYMPTOM

The client may “feel” the release of the throttle plate through the accelerator pedal when first pressing the accelerator pedal after a cold start. Some describe it as a “pop” sensation.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Primarily in coastal regions, carbon and salt deposits accumulate on the Molykote in the throttle bore.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Install a new throttle body and gasket.

NOTE: Cleaning is not sufficient. Changes have been made to the throttle plate angle and stop settings of the new throttle body.
