SYMPTOM

The oil filter is hard to remove.

 

POSSIBLE CAUSES

The original oil filter was cross-threaded onto the oil filter feed pipe.

 

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the oil filter feed pipe.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. If not already done, raise the vehicle on a lift.
  2. Remove the splash shield to gain better access to the oil filter.
  3. Remove the oil filter.
    • If the oil filter is hard to remove, the oil filter feed pipe threads are stripped/damaged, or the oil filter comes off with the feed pipe attached to it, go to step 4.
    • If the oil filter comes off as normal and the oil filter feed pipe is not damaged, this bulletin does not apply.
  4. If the oil filter feed pipe did not come off with the oil filter, remove it using vise-grips.

  1. Thread two 20 x 1.5 mm jam nuts to the new oil filter feed pipe.

  1. Lock the nuts together using a 30 mm wrench and 30 mm socket wrench.
  2. Add a few drops of engine oil to the threads of the oil filter feed pipe, then install, and torque it to 35 N∙m (26 lb-ft).

  1. Remove the nuts from the oil filter feed pipe.
  2. Complete the oil change as needed.
