Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
Remedy
Dealers will replace the MOST cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s numbers for this recall are EEL and ZEM.

As of June 8, 2023, Honda has received 273,870 warranty claims related to the issue between May 2017 to June 2023, and no reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue.

The dealer will install an improved MOST cable harness between the existing display audio and vehicle terminal connections and a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector to properly connect the audio display unit. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. January 29, 2021 Honda extended the warranty to vehicles affected by the issue. February 11, 2021 Honda began to utilize a waterproof coupler to address the connection issue and continued to monitor and analyze the market. April 25, 2022 Honda began to analyze recurring issues after the use of the waterproof couplers. April 19, 2023 Honda observed rearview cameras failed to display an image and investigated further. June 8, 2023 Honda determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety and FMVSS noncompliance existed and decided to conduct a safety and noncompliance recall. As of June 8, 2023, Honda has received 273,870 warranty claims related to the issue between May 2017 to June 2023, and no reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will install an improved MOST cable harness between the existing display audio and vehicle terminal connections and a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector to properly connect the audio display unit. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Recalled components contain improperly designed and manufactured MOST coaxial cable terminals. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The MOST coaxial cable terminal has been improved by a redesigned part from a new component part supplier.
