The production range reflects all possible vehicles that could experience the problem. Production Dates : SEP 15, 2022 – NOV 17, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Due to the improper production sequence of the right engine crankcase cover, paint was misapplied to the inner surface of the press-fit plug hole. When the engine temperature rises, the paint can soften, allowing the plug to come out of the hole. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the plug comes out, oil can leak or spray onto the exhaust pipe and/or adhere to the rear tire while the motorcycle is in operation, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, or injury. Description of the Cause : The supplier did not follow the correct production sequence. Rewari Foreign States 123501 Country : India Chronology : January 15, 2023 Honda received a report from the Japanese market of engine oil spraying from an affected vehicle while in operation and began to investigate the issue. January 30, 2023 Honda received a report from the Indian market of oil leaking out from the right crankcase cover of an affected vehicle. February 2023 Honda began an investigation into the potential presence of paint in the crankcase plug press-fit hole. March 13, 2023 Honda received a report from the Japanese market of an affected vehicle leaking oil from the engine while in operation. April 6, 2023 Honda determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety existed and decided to conduct a safety recall. As of April 6, 2023, Honda has received no warranty claims or reports for this issue in the U.S. market. No crashes or injuries related to this issue were reported. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-261 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda Powersports dealer. The dealer will replace the right crankcase cover with a non-defective part, for free. Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Recalled components were improperly produced and may have paint adhered to the inner surface of the press-fit plug hole of the crankcase cover. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The manufacturing and production inspection process has been corrected.
