SAFETY RECALL
MULTIPLE MODEL – REAR REFLECTOR
BACKGROUND
Honda
is launching a SAFETY RECALL on CERTAIN motorcycles listed in the AFFECTED
UNITS section of this bulletin to replace the rear reflector, which does not meet FMVSS reflectiveness requirements. A rear reflector that does not meet reflective requirements may reduce visibility from behind, increasing the risk of a rear collision and possible injury or death.
This Service Bulletin includes the reflector replacement procedure, parts information, and warranty template claim information.
Honda
will notify customers with affected vehicles via letter in July 2021, advising them to make an appointment with an authorized Honda
dealer to perform the recall repair by replacing the rear reflector with an updated part.

573.6(c)(5)
Noncompliance description:
Due to a change in the manufacturing process, the injection molding cycle time for the affected vehicles’ rear reflector lens was shortened, resulting in reflectors having lower photometric performance than intended. As a result, the reflectors may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment, potentially reducing vehicle visibility and increasing the risk of a crash and injury.
573.6(c)(7)
Determination of noncompliance:
December 2020
After a compliance test by Korean motor vehicle authorities on a sampling of rear reflectors, Honda
Korea was informed that the rear reflectors of a Korean market vehicle were noncompliant.
December 2020 – January 2021
Honda
and the rear reflector supplier performed internal tests to further investigate the noncompliance and confirmed that the rear reflectors were noncompliant because of a shortened injection molding cycle time of the reflector lens.
January – March 2021
Honda
investigated the affected population and whether the affected models were out of compliance under other countries’ regulations.
May 17, 2021
Honda
determined that an FMVSS noncompliance existed on the referenced models and decided to conduct a noncompliance recall.

This notice applies to your vehicle: Dear Honda
Powersports Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS NOTICE?
Honda
has decided that certain 2020-2021 model year Super Cub C125, CB500F, CB500X, CB650R,
CBR300R, CBR500R, CBR650R, Rebel 300, Rebel 500, CRF250L, CRF300L, GROM, and MONKEY motorcycles
fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108,
“Lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment.” Due to a change in the manufacturing process
of the rear reflector, the reflector may not reflect brightly enough, potentially reducing
visibility to other drivers which may increase the risk of a crash and injury.
WHAT WILL HONDA
DO?
The dealer will replace the defective part with a new improved rear reflector for FREE.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please call any authorized Honda
Powersports dealer and make an appointment to have the rear
reflector replaced with a new improved part for FREE. Once you schedule an appointment for your
motorcycle, be advised that the replacement, may take up to approximately 35 minutes to complete.
However, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this service
visit, as it may be necessary to make your motorcycle available for a longer period of time. If you
are not the only rider of this motorcycle, please advise all other riders and passengers of this
important safety information.
For assistance locating a Honda
Powersports dealer, you may call Honda
Powersports Customer Service
at: (866) 784-1870 or use the “find a dealer” option on www.powersports.honda
.com.
