MIL Comes On With DTC P0973
SYMPTOM
The MIL is on with DTC P0973 (short in shift solenoid valve A circuit).
PROBABLE CAUSE
Ferrous contamination on the contact area of the solenoid causes a short.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
- Replace shift solenoid A (blue wire in harness).
- Refer to page 14-193 of the 2005–06 CR-V Service Manual, page 14-194 of the 2003–06 Accord Service Manual, or
- Online, enter keyword Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement. For CR-V, select Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement (A/T). For Accord, select Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement (L4 Engine, A/T) from the list.
NOTE: Replace the solenoid cover gasket and the ATF cooler pipe sealing washers during installation.
- Clear the DTC with the HDS, then test-drive the vehicle to ensure that the DTC does not recur.
- Inspect for any automatic transmission fluid leaks related to the repair.
