Third Row Seat Cup Holder Gets Warm

SYMPTOM 

The third row seat cup holder on the right side of the vehicle gets warm.

 

POSSIBLE CAUSES

The rear (right) side trim panel does not have enough insulation where the HVAC system components are located.

 

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the rear (right) side trim panel.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the right side sliding door trim.
  • Release the hooks from the B-pillar lower trim and the rear side trim panel.
  • Pull up the trim by hand to detach the clips.

  1. Pull out the right sliding door weatherstrip from the trim hooks as needed.

  1. Pull out the tailgate weatherstrip as needed.

  1. Remove the rear trim panel.
  • Remove the bolts and detach the clips.
  • Pull out both side edges of the panel by hand to release the hooks from the rear side trim panel.
  • Pull back the panel to detach the clips.

  1. Remove the rear (right) side trim panel.
  • Remove the bolt.
  • Pull out the front upper edge of the panel by hand to release the hooks from the C-pillar trim.
  • Pull out the rear upper edge of the panel by hand to release the hooks from the D-pillar trim.
  • Pull back the panel by hand to detach the clips.
  • Disconnect the HDMI harness connector (if equipped).
  • If necessary, release the hooks (eight places), then remove the right center cover.

  1. If necessary, install the right center cover.
  2. Install the new rear right side trim panel.
  3. Reinstall the rear trim panel.
  4. Reinstall the weatherstrip around the tailgate and sliding door.
  5. Reinstall the right side sliding door trim.
