Defect description:
Manual adjustments to the second row outboard seat rails during the assembly process may have deformed the seat rail locking mechanism, potentially preventing the seat rail from locking. If the second row outboard seat cannot maintain a fixed locked position, the seat may move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury.

May 17, 2021
Routine factory quality inspections of new vehicles identified movement in a second row outboard seat, in which the seat rail had been manually adjusted during the assembly process and investigation begins.
May 21, 2021
Investigation shows that the second row outboard seat identified above was not locked into place.
May 26, 2021
Meeting with supplier concluded that the seat rail locking mechanism was deformed during the assembly process.
May 28, 2021
Honda determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety existed and decided to conduct a safety recall.
As of May 28, 2021, Honda has received 0 warranty claims, 0 field reports, and 0 injuries related to this issue.

Program for remedying the defect:
Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to a Honda dealer. The dealer will replace both second row outboard seat frames for free.
Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.

6/28/2021 Amendment
Honda contracts a third-party logistics company to manage transport of vehicles from the distribution center to the dealership network. Although Honda has the ability to quarantine vehicles at the distribution center, the inventory control systems between Honda and the third-party contractor are not instantly processed. The gap in information processing between the two systems allowed potentially suspect vehicles to leave the distribution center and enter the dealership network.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Honda has decided that a defect which
relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2022 model year Odyssey vehicles.
Why my vehicle is under recall: During the assembly process, the second row outboard seat rails may have been
damaged, potentially preventing the seat rail from locking. An unlocked second row
outboard seat may move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
What Honda will do: Your Honda dealer will replace both second row outboard seat frames for FREE. Honda
estimates that the repair will take approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete.
However, your dealer can provide you with a better estimate of the overall time for this
service visit, as it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of
time.

Please be advised that as of today, June 17, 2021, parts are now available via VIN control ordering under
service bulletin 21-056, Safety Recall: 2022 Odyssey Second Row Outer Seats. A revision to this bulletin has
now been posted to the Service Information System (SIS) which includes parts, repair, and warranty
information related to this recall.
REPAIR
Replace the right and le􀅌 second row outer seat frames.
TOOLS
There are no special tools needed for this recall.
